About
Juan Felipe Echavarría Salazar is a Colombian tenor distinguished by his artistry, versatility, and commitment to redefining the modern classical experience.
He began his musical journey at the age of nine as a cellist in Medellín’s Red de Escuelas de Música. His vocal talent was soon discovered while singing in the Gregorian Choir of the Seminario Menor de Medellín, inspiring him to pursue singing as his life’s path. Juan Felipe continued his studies at Universidad EAFIT in Medellín, Universidad Central in Bogotá, and later at the Richard Wagner Konservatorium in Vienna, Austria, where he refined his vocal and artistic expression.
Despite his young age, he has already performed demanding tenor roles such as Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Tamino (Die Zauberflöte), Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas), and Flavio (Norma). In the latter, he worked under the direction of the legendary soprano Grace Bumbry, who also mentored him in the role of Pollione. Bumbry recognized in him a rare artistic light and became a decisive influence in his development, leaving a profound mark on his understanding of opera and artistry.
As a soloist, Juan Felipe has performed an extensive repertoire spanning from early Baroque to contemporary operetta, including oratorios such as Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël. His concert programs often feature arias by Verdi, Puccini, Mascagni, Massenet, Flotow, Weber, and Wagner, showcasing his elegant phrasing and emotional sensitivity.
Currently, Juan Felipe is a member of the Romantik Theater in Lower Austria, where he performs in operettas and musical comedies by composer Ronald Baumgartner, including roles such as Paolo Denaro in Karnaval in Venedig, Enrico Sardini in Hotel Royal, and Antonio Cravallo in Träume im Orientexpress, both world premieres.
Beyond opera, he has expanded into the world of symphonic rock and metal as the male soloist in the acclaimed production Salvator, where he fuses classical and lyrical singing with the power of rock, creating an electrifying and deeply emotional performance experience.
In 2024, Juan Felipe founded Lux Vienna Productions (LVP), a groundbreaking artistic company based in Vienna. LVP is devoted to the holistic development of artists—bridging the worlds of artistic excellence, financial well-being, and mental health. Through innovative productions and educational programs, LVP seeks to transform the way classical art connects with modern audiences, offering a new paradigm for sustainable and meaningful artistic careers.
The official inauguration of Lux Vienna Productions on November 22, 2024, marks a new chapter in Vienna’s cultural life—one led by Juan Felipe’s vision of artistry that inspires, uplifts, and evolves with the times.
